Our Art Crit group is a supportive and friendly group who critique one another's work - challenging one another to develop and supporting one another to do so.
If you'd like to come along, please bring a piece of your work to share OR an image of another artist's work which you'd like to talk about.
We'll welcome you with hot drinks and biscuits to get the discussion flowing :-) Then we'll set off with a framework similar to this, and adapt as we go:
The idea is to present work blind, to get a new perspective from a viewers’ point of view and to find out how an audience engages with the piece.
1.DESCRIBE – What is it? What are you seeing?
2. ANALYSE- How can you see those things? Is it about the colour, shapes, texture, scale etc?
3. INTERPRET- Is there an obvious meaning? What can it mean? Does this come across effectively?
4. JUDGEMENT- Is it working? If not, why? How can it be resolved? Do parts work? (This helps to build up critical thinking around the work)
5. MOVING FORWARD – How could the work be developed? What next? Are there any known artists working in the same way? Are there any related areas of research which could help push the work in new directions?
